TEHRAN (IQNA) – A forum titled “Philosophy of Hajj and Resolution of Muslim Ummah’s Issues” was held in New Delhi, with the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in India Hojat-ol-Islam Mahdi Mahdavipour in attendance.

The forum was organized by the office of the Leader’s representative and attended by Shia and Sunni scholars, academics and media representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Hojat-ol-Islam Mahdavi highlighted the religious, social and political aspects of Hajj.

Mukram Ahmad, a senior cleric in New Delhi, referred to the problems Hajj pilgrims face in Saudi Arabia and called on Muslim countries to play a role in providing the pilgrims with better services.

Another speaker was Akhtar Abdul Wasi, chancellor of Mawlana University in Rajasthan, northern India, who said all aspects of Hajj prepare Muslims for the struggle against injustice and corruption.

Hoajt-ol-Islam Mumtaz Ali, a senior Shia cleric of New Delhi, stressed the need for Hajj to be held in the same way that Prophet Ibraheem (Abraham) performed it.

If so, he said, the problems of the Muslim world would be resolved.

Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca that every able-bodied and financially able Muslim is obliged to undertake at least once during their lifetime.

It is regarded as one of the pillars of Islam and the largest act of mass pilgrimage in the world.

The holy pilgrimage is also a demonstration of Muslims’ unity and their submission to Allah.
