Organized by the IQNA – A forum titled “Status of Holy Quran in Contemporary Africa” was held at the 31st Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition Friday night.scholarly committee of the exhibition’s international section, it was attended by Quranic figures from Tunisia and Algeria.

Secretary of the forum Seyed Hassan Esmati in his speech referred to the presence of Quran reciters at the court of the king of Abyssinia (today’s Ethiopia) in the early years after the advent of Islam and described Africa as the first destination of Quranic diplomacy.

Another speaker was Omar bin Ali al-Jamani, a Quranic calligrapher from Tunisia who elaborated on the history of Islam’s presence in his country.

He also said Quranic arts have roots in the history of Tunisia and Andalusia.

Al-Jamani further highlighted the pivotal role of Ez-Zitouna University in Quranic activities in Tunisia.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said many Mus’hafs have been calligraphed in Tunisia, including Tijani Mohammadi Mus’haf and al-Miratiya Mushaf and noted that he, himself, has calligraphed a Mush’af which will be published in the near future.

University scholar and Quran activist Armouli Bilal from Algeria also addressed the forum.

He highlighted the Algerian people’s love for the Quran, which is manifested in the large number of Maktabs (traditional Quran schools).

He said tens of thousands of Maktabs are active in Algeria today.

The 31st edition of the Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition was launched at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) on Wednesday, March 20.   

The Tehran International Quran Exhibition is annually organized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in the holy month of Ramadan.

The exhibition is aimed at promoting Quranic concepts and developing Quranic activities.

It showcases the latest Quranic achievements in the country as well as a variety of products dedicated to the promotion of the Holy Book.
