TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s Islamic seminaries are the flag-bearers of content-based Quranic activities in the country, an official said.

Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Hassan Hosseini

Speaking to IQNA, Director of the Islamic Seminaries’ Quran and Hadith Department Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Hassan Hosseini underlined the seminaries’ efforts in Quranic fields.

He referred to establishing Quran and Etrat sections in seminaries all over the country, planning courses on Quran memorization, Tajweed, translation, interpretation, and contemplation, and holding Quranic circles and Quran competitions as some of the activities of the seminaries to promote the Quran.

According to the cleric, founding Quran memorization schools named Hafezeen (memorizers) in cities across the country has been one of the main contributions of the Islamic seminaries to a plan aimed at training ten million Quran memorizers.

In these schools, seminary students and others learn the Quran by heart along with learning Quran interpretation and contemplation, he said.

Hojat-ol-Islam Hosseini added that 400 Quran teachers are also being trained to teach at these schools.

Currently, there are 63 Hafezeen schools operating in the country with some 1,800 seminary students and others learning the Quran by heart at these schools, he noted.

The official added that the number of the schools is hoped to reach 70 by the end of the current Iranian year of 1400 (March 2022).

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said in a speech in 2011 that the society should take a direction so that at least 10 million people learn the Holy Quran by heart.

Afterwards, related Quranic bodies in the country devised a plan, called National Quran Memorization Plan, aimed at promoting memorization of the Holy Book and training 10 million memorizers in a few years.
