TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran recitation program was held in Cairo with the participation of a number of top Egyptian qaris.

The Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque (Al-Hussein Mosque) hosted the Quranic event on Thursday, Youm7 website reported.

It was organized by the country’s Awqaf Ministry with the aim of promoting Quran recitation and enhancing the role of mosques in spreading Quranic teachings.

Sheikh Mahmoud Mohammed al-Khisht, Sheikh Abdul Fattah Ali Abdul Fattah al-Taruti, Sheikh Ahmed Tamim al-Maraqi, Sheikh Abdul Latif al-Azib Wuhdan, Sheikh Taha Mohammed Shaaban al-Numan and Sheikh Ahmed Abu Fuyuz were among the qaris who recited the Quran at the program.

The ministry has resumed such Quranic events since the resumption of activities in mosques a few month ago with the reduction in coronavirus cases.

The programs are part of a major initiative which includes recitation of Quran at mosques by qaris and imams of mosques with moderate views.

There are also Quran recitation and memorization courses for women and programs helping the youths and others contemplate on the teachings of the Holy Book.

Al-Hussein Mosque is a famous mosque in an old section of Cairo which was originally constructed in 1154 and was reconstructed in 1874.
