Head of Iran's Environment Protection Organization said the Holy Quran stresses the importance of protecting the environment.

Speaking to the press center of the 22nd Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition during a visit to the expo, Masoumeh Ebtekar cited verse 41 of Surah al-Rum "Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]," and said the verse exactly refers to the environmental issues humanity is suffering from today.
She also underlined that human beings can learn countless lessons from the Holy Book in different areas including ethics and culture.
Elsewhere in her remarks, head of the Environment Protection Organization referred to her organization's activities in Quranic and religious fields and said it has organized two seminars featuring the relation between Quranic and religious concepts and the environment.
