TEHRAN (IQNA) – According to officials in Kordestan province of Iran, a historic handwritten Quran has undergone restoration.

A historical manuscript of the Holy Quran underwent some rehabilitation work in the western province of Kordestan, the provincial tourism chief has said.

Being kept in the village of Mulanabad, the 300-year-old script needed urgent restoration to regain its original state in the hands of experienced experts, Yaqub Guylian announced on Wednesday

That copy of the Holy Quran is considered to be one of the finest in the country, made of paper and covered in leather.

In a similar news last week, officials in the Kermanshah province announced that three sets of manuscripts of the Holy Quran have recently been restored to their original state in the western province.

“The manuscripts, which have been damaged through the years, belong to three villages throughout the province,” Jabbar Gohari said on Wednesday.

A budget of 450 million rials ($1,500) has been allocated to the restoration project, the official added.

The project involved cleaning old restorations, removing stains, removing surface dust deposits, and reversing the effects of physical and chemical corrosion, he noted.

By maintaining work integrity and preserving it with as little intervention as possible and using little chemicals, the artistic and historical originality of each work was preserved, he mentioned.
